I went to work yesterday, but I was in so much discomfort that I came home early. And here I am today -- at home. Just look at the swelling and bruising in this foot! Ouch!
.
I decided that my cast needed a bit of color. So, with the help of a sharpie and some nail polish, here's what I did ...
... and I also did this! (Anyone know how to get red nail polish out of a carpet -- besides rubbing and making it worse like I did?) .
Sigh! What a dork I am sometimes!
.
I searched the internet for funny pictures of people with casts trying to get into or out of the bathtub, or trying to carry their tea into the living room. But I guess no one wearing a cast sees anything funny about it! Go figure!
.
Well, what with my artistic side kicking in with that great cast-art above, a poem began to form in my mind. I'd like to share it with you now.

Ode to Broken Foot
(by Doris the currently not-so-Great)
.
Oh cast! Which cast a pallor, upon once castless life.
Oh broken foot! You broke my dreams of dancing Saturday night.
Oh swollen, bruised, like-sausage toes, of yellow/purple hues
Oh pain in back and sciatic nerve; you make me sing the blues!
.
I long for comfort -- yet little is found. I toss and turn and cuss;
contort my body just to bathe ----- and still I look a muss!
I hop with crutches, pant ... and rest! Hope I don't fall on ass!
God says "Relax! In 4 to 6 weeks ..... this too shall surely pass".

What a great sense of humor you have! Feel better, hop along...
Try some nail polish remover on the carpet. It should, in theory, work.
Cute poem! Poor bruised little sausage toes!
I love your uplifting postive attitude - great poem! Yes, it shall pass and become a distat memory - one that in years to come you will look back and laugh, and I'm sure say I should have really just enjoyed the moment of doing nothing.
Try to embrace this down time ... and let others take care of you and your needs for a few days at least!!
Re: nail polish - I understand what Debra is saying ... I would just be careful it doesn't also remove the colour from the carpet.
Happy healing... xo HHL
Ouch! That looks painful! Keep it elevated!
OMG-I don't even know how I found you but I can tell we are going to be friends. I am aging with the same disrespectablity that you are! Yessir...sans the broken foot, of course. You are a hoot...and I am crazy so we should get along just fine. I am signing up as your newest follower because I don't think anyone really ages GRACEFULLY...and I put my MistyCat down too ... and still miss her.
Anyway...I'll be dogging you now that I found you-so you are stuck with me. Diana
Love, Love, Love the poem! Sorry your broke your foot, but the poetry is brilliant!
Well, When I broke my foot, a friend had a fancy walker to lend me (her Church had it). The kind with a seat on it and wheels with breaks. I used the seat to put a tray on so I could roll my tea and food to the table. It would be worth it to rent one. It was great!! Could even sit on and scoot. Way faster and safer and a little fun too. Good luck to you!
Oh Sandy!! I'm sorry to see you hurt your foot!!! :(

Hope you are better SOON... Try seltzer water just "warmed a pinch" in the microwave. It works perfectly on just about everything when it comes to carpets. So give it a try and let me know if I can add it to my list of Miracles! Good luck, Donna
I have been there and done that so I do feel your pain. Those crutches are such a bother and yes, I did fall while using them several times... Watch out for wet slippery floors. I heard somewhere that hair spray is good for taking ink out of fabric, maybe it will work on the polish???
Take good care! I hope you have a supply of good books on hand!
Laughter will get you through this.
Heal quickly.
Great poem - you are good to be able to still smile at your dilemma. My grandson has a neon green cast on his arm - he's 7. He seems pretty upbeat, too.
Take care of yourself! You need lots of nice soup and TLC!
Your cast looks so much better now!
I'm thinking Nail polish remover.
And I'm thinking.. "OUCH!"
Cute poem.....even prettier cast and foot.....I adorned mine with hearts and pearls when I had a foot injury last year.....you know decorating one's cast does make things heal better....yeah it does...it really does!!! (O:(O:(O:

Brilliant ode! LOL!
I'm sorry about the sausage toes though.
Oh my goodness you poor thing! I hope you are back to your old self soon. Hugs to you.
Loved your poem... oh dear about the nail polish on the carpet...
prayers for a speedy recovery being sent your way.
Poor Doris, the not so great! :( I loved your poem, it made me laugh...does that make you feel better? I especially loved, 'sausage toes'...Hope you feel better soon!
Good thing you went to the hospital. I did a similar fall last year and didn't go. Your foot will heal nicely with the cast and you won't need physio like I do!!! Enjoy the down time..... Susan :)
Heeeeehehehe! Only you would write an ode to a broken foot! Girl, it looks painful. My prayers are with ya!
I knocked some hot pink florescent nail polish off a shelf and the bottle hit something and shattered all over my light beige carpet. I poured nail polish remover on it and used a paper towel to sop it up. I kept repeating the process till you could no longer see the polish. I truly felt like I had lucked out on that one!
God bless ya and please take care of that foot!
Hi there,my name is Amy and currently broken as well. How is the swelling? The cast looks very tight and you have to be careful it's not too tight! My first cast that I got had to be cut off and re done because it was so tight. Are you putting ice on? Press your toe nail and if color returns in a few seconds it should be fine. I hope you are feeling better and can I sign yours?LOL
Amy
