THE CANADIAN BOOK CHALLENGE

I came across this challenge on Teena's blog at http://www.purple4mee.com/ I'm anticipating that it will be an easy one for me to fulfill what with my new determination to spend more time reading anyway. All I have to do is read 13 Canadian books from July 1, 2009 to July 1, 2010.

If you want more info or if you want to sign up for the challenge, visit The Book Mine Set.

I've got half my list decided on (as most of them were on my summer reading list already). So, I'll have to keep a sharp eye out for the other five. Any suggestions from my bloggie friends?

1. "Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage" by Alice Munro

2. "Kit's Law" by Donna Morrissey

3. "Small Ceremonies" by Carol Shields

4. "The Tattooed Girl" by Joyce Carol Oates

5. "The Colony of Unrequited Dreams" by Wayne Johnston

6. "Away" by Jane Urquhart

7.

8.

9.

Oh, what fun! I'll have to look into that. Have you read The English Patient (Ondaatje) or Alias Grace (Atwood)? How about anything by Will Feguson? I esp. liked his Beauty Tips from Moose Jaw. A personal favourite is Alberta Homestead by Sarah Roberts - it is an autobiography of a homesteader at the turn of the twentieth century and it can be hard to find. Or, ooh, if you're a dog person, check out anything by Stanley Coren.

Oops, that's Will FeRguson, of course. Sorry!

Hi Sandy/Doris The Great,
Glad you've joined the challenge. As an Newfoundlander myself, I've hoped to have another on board! I love your number 5 pick, and I really want to read #2 (anything by her really).

Hi Sandy, I have a few books you can borrow if you'd like to add them to your list:
Runaway by Alice Munro;
The Way The Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald;
Curse of the Red Cross Ring by Earl B. Pilgrim (a Nfld story set in the 1920s..picked it up on our vacation to Nfld); and
3 books by Rick Mofina...he's an Ottawa author that writes crime fiction..the 3 books I have are: Every Fear, If Angels Fall, No Way Back

Thanks Sara. I'll gladly take you up on the books to read. You'll have to drop by sometime and we'll sit in the garden and have our favorite summer drinks!

I love to read ---but seems like lately I just haven't been taking the time to do it. Once I get moved and settled to the country, I am sure I will have more time for reading and "quiet times". Canadian books?? --does that mean canadian authors??
