A DIFFERENT KIND OF YARD SALE

I went to another yard sale this Saturday. What's so different about this one? Well, I was one of the 2 people who hosted it. (And yes, I still made purchases. Duh! It is ME after all!)

My good friend Eva is a major pack-rat. But she has her house up for sale and is planning on downsizing, so she needs to purge. This was her first time, and it was like major surgery for her. But she kept reminding herself that when she sells, she can decide on a new color scheme and buy new. And we all know how much fun that is, right?

Me -- I've been accumulating my yard sale items for the past 2 years; they've been crowding out my basement space and downstairs hallway. So, on Friday night, I dragged my 2 carloads of "quality junk" over to her house and we did a little pricing.

Saturday morning at 6 AM, we began to set up. I'm the tough one in this duo, so while Eva ran and hid, I turned away all the early birds until about 7:45 AM. I mean, we'd never get things out and priced if we had to stop for all the vultures. (Sorry all you early birds!!! I don't mean you -- I mean those other ones!) But you know, advertising that your sale starts at 8 AM, and having people show up at 6:30 is just NOT polite!

Here is my darling, silly Eva. She's originally from Czech Republic and has an amazing story of escaping into Germany, learning to speak German, and then a few years later, coming to Canada and having to learn English. She a great friend with an amazing generous spirit, and she's love to laugh. Being European, she can be sexually explicit and politically incorrect; she'll say "Oh, was that bad to say?" and then she'll laugh. She a great masseuse as well.

This is Eva with, as she calls him, her husband Homer (she let him go that day) and her neighbour Crystal who came to help us.

And here I am -- about mid-morning and beginning to fade! After standing around for several hours, we all had to don one of Eva's selection of cowboy hats and look for shady places.

One of the advantages of having 3 of us work the sale was that I was able to take a break around 10 AM to go to the Farmer's market and fuel up on my chocolate buttermilk cupcake! (Post to come!)

It was a perfect yard sale day -- sunny but not too hot and there were oodles of other yard sales happening, so people were out in force! We sold most of our goodies and the remainer will go to the Sally Ann. Eva made a bundle that day! And I made a respectable $80. (And spent about $25 there plus what I spent at the Farmer's Market!!! Ooops!!!)
But hey! It's not about the money is it? It's about getting together with your friend and purging so that you have more room; and it's about the thrill of finding that latest thing that you simply don't know HOW you lived without before!!! (to fill up that more room you just made!)

I love it. I tell my husband every time we have a garage sale that I end up selling stuff back to myself as I try to sell it to someone else. I'm like "man if it's that good why am I getting rid of it?" LOL
And it's way more fun with friends.
Great job and looking forward to that recipe!!
Hugs.

I think Dear Hubby and I would need to rent a convention hall to display everything we could put out for a garage sale, especially after living in this house for 27 years!! As to muffins, we have a little bakery nearby that sells the most DELICIOUS vegan chocolate pumpkin muffins on Thursdays. I don't know why I say delicious since I have no sense of taste but the texture of them is delightful for me...gooey and chewy at the same time, ha! Two of my sister-in-law have an annual yard sale every summer and the one s-i-l who changes the decor of her home every 5 minutes usually rakes in somewhere up near $1000!! And what's pathetic is I've never made it to one yet, haha!
