Easter musings

Here's an idea that I'm passing on from Ricki Jill Treleaven at Art @ Home.  Just a short series of questions on your Easter.

1.  What's your favorite Easter or Passover tradition?
Mine is Easter breakfast at our church.  It's one of the few times I can get my kids to join me anymore (but I know HE has their heart because HE doesn't let go).  We don't start too early - breakfast at 9 am.  And the men usually prepare and clean up; but this year, most of the men are unable to do it, so Shirley and I are on duty:  boiled eggs, bacon, pancakes, and 3 kinds of fresh muffins, still hot from the oven.  It's always delicious!

2.  What do you serve for Easter or Passover?
Our meal is usually turkey, fixings & pie for dessert; 2 of my girls don't like ham (and I do have a small turkey in the freezer).  But those 2 are not at home -- sad face -- :(   So I may change it up  -- ham with pineapple glaze, roasted potatoes, mashed turnip and green beans.  Let's see how I feel when I buy groceries later today.  Apple and cherry pie a la mode is on the dessert menu.

3.  Do you decorate for Easter?
Yes (although I'm late this year).  I cut an Alder tree branch on Ash Wed, put it in water and it's now full of little green leaves.  Even if we get a snow squall, I will have spring in my house.  The tree gets decorated with the eggs the girls made when they were little -- and the ones my international daughters will decorate this weekend.  (They've been laughing at me whenever I blow the eggs:  sensible Asian families don't do that!)  There are also a few bunnies et al to be put out.

4.  Your Easter basket is not complete without ...
My personal Easter basket is not complete without chocolate marshmallow eggs.  I remember the kind my Mom used to buy for herself (because we kids would have huge hollow bunnies or chickens); they were soft inside and the milk chocolate had nuts in it.  They were so good; and I've never been able to find a duplicate to how good I remember them being.  Russell Stover makes a passable marshmallow egg:  but if they were too good, I'd probably just eat  too many!

5.  Do you buy new Easter clothing?
I only have something new for Easter if I've found something while thrifting throughout the year.  I do have at least 2 dresses in my closet that haven't been worn yet.  But with Nova Scotian Aprils, I'm not sure the weather will be warm enough to wear either.  But whatever I choose to wear, I will be in Easter colors.

How about you?  I'd love to hear from you.

I have some outfits ready to wear too depending on the weather. They really aren't new but bright and colorful to fit the season. Easter is a wonderful time for traditions. The best being getting together with my family. Hope your Wednesday is a wonderful one!

Hi Sandy. Our Easter weekends are always busy with the Easter drama at our church. We have a performance on Good Friday evening and Easter Sunday evening plus lots of practice Thursday evening and Friday. Our son will be our only guest for dinner (ham) on Sat. or Mon. - not sure yet. The house has been decorated for over 2 weeks and will buy tulips tomorrow. Hubby takes Monday off to recuperate from playing keyboards all weekend. A busy time but we really enjoy the opportunity to worship and share Jesus's love. Easter Blessings to you! Pam

After a Big Top (farm boy fixes) breakfast (usually oatmeal) our Easters are all church and family oriented.

My Mom would always place a chocolate Easter Bunny at each plate at breakfast...a sample of things to come.

Honey, no Easter would be complete without a Reese's Peanut Butter Egg. There is just somethin' 'bout that egg!!!

God bless ya sweetie and have an amazin' day!!!

I am not religious but the best part of Easter is spending time with those I love. Isn't that the reason for holidays anyway? Love is what we all have in common, love is what binds us all together, love is what gets us through the day and, for that matter, life.

Happy Easter, Doris.

Dying the eggs is a BIG deal at our house. My hubby and I continued the tradition, though our daughters are grown up. My family lives on either coast, so we will not be able to see them in person on Easter, but we will Skype with them. HAPPY EASTER to you and yours. Take care.

Happy Easte to you!
I don't have anything that is a tradition. If I ever make a good meal, it is a time of great rejoicing, at any time of the year!

Lovely Easter post! These days my kiddos are older so I just put movies and such in their baskets, maybe the odd choc or two. They always have a pretty basket for me to, without the sweets, love the stuff but have to stay away from it!! Happy Easter to you my friend. Diane
