The US has their Punxsutawney Phil, Ontario has its Wiarton Willie, and even little ole Nova Scotia has Schubenacadie Sam! Yes, there were perhaps hundreds of groundhogs (some with cute names) who popped their heads up out of their burrows this morning. And yes, they all saw their shadow; which means ALAS! Six more weeks of winter!

What a bunch of bunkum!! I could have saved them all the trouble and expense of consulting their particular groundhog. I could have told them we'd have six more weeks of winter. In as many of my 55 years that I can remember, February 2nd has always been followed by more winter. And ever since my daughter was born on St Patrick's Day, I've noticed that the season begins to change around that time -- we have more sunny days, less snowfall and icy cold; there's a smell of spring in the air!

Let's see? Feb 2nd to March 17th ..... hmmmm ..... that's about ..........SIX WEEKS!!

Now I love music. But it matters not a mote to me that Michael Jackson (bless his little sainted "HOOHOO" soul!) trusted in a little rodent friend in 1972. Yes, perhaps they didn't have to "look no more"! (The money earned probably didn't hurt either.) But I ain't putting my weather forecasts let alone my life in the hands of no flea-ridden, rabies carrying, possibly human-hating killer of the Sciuridae family. (They even sound Sicilian, don't they!) You may think they're harmless herbavores, but they're rodents, people! And I saw the movie Ben in '72 -- I know what they're capable of!

Besides, if someone woke you out of a good sleep in the dead of winter and hauled you up out of your cozy burrow into the bright light of day where you found yourself surrounded by large, loud beings with cameras and microphones to shove in your face; well, I figure you'd be pretty p-oed. Just p-oed enough to make darned sure you saw your shadow and curse them as you crawl back to bed. "A pox on you!!" I would be saying.

NEVER trust a rodent, bloggies! This is a more accurate prediction of things to come. *
*
Perhaps I'm being a bit hard on our little furry friends. Perhaps they're not all bad, right?
*
Okay, I'll admit it. I may have spoken too quickly and a little too harshly.
*
So, I'll attempt to view them in a different light. Here's how I think we should celebrate Groundhog Day.
*
Now, I could see me doing this with Mr Groundhog!*
*
And, yes, I could definately see me doing this!*
*
*
But then, this looks pretty darned good too!!!Yum, yum! That's my idea of a good groundhog!!

Happy Groundhog Day everyone!

That's too funny! But those little groundhog cupcakes are so so cute! Wish I'd have seen them sooner - I'd have made them for my son's friends at school!

Happy Groundhog Day! Have you noticed it's not getting dark so early, as it was a month ago? It makes for a longer, brighter afternoon. I can't wait for Spring!
The movie is awfully funny, though. The scene that is repeated day after day begins with "I Got You, Babe!"
Happy Ground Hogs Day! Yes, even the calendar agrees about 6 more weeks til Spring comes. Somehow 6 weeks doesn't sound too bad at all.
Can't wait for spring!
Very cute indeed!
Cheers to six more weeks of winter.
Ha Ha ha this had me laughing. I don't buy into the whole groundhog rubbish either!
I also don't understand why if he sees his shadow there are 6 more weeks of winter. Obviously if he sees his shadow there must be some sun out. What the????
