Rabbit, Rabbit!

.

I begged August not to leave.

.

"Look", I said. "The sun is still shining brightly; the temperatures are perfect; the ocean is finally warm; the beaches are beckoning."

..

He gave me a sideways quizzical glance.

.

I tried bribery.

.

"I have a few days of vacation left, and I'll spend them all with you. I'll throw in a corn boil and that 4 pack of sparkling cider I have downstairs. I'll make you Smores!"

.

He ignored me.

.
I tried seduction:

.

"You're such a great month, August!" I purred. "Probably the best month a-l-l year!" (I got as close to him as I could.) I wish you'd stay a little longer and we could 'play' together! I whispered in his ear: "I'll wear that low-cut cotton dress ... wink, wink, nudge, nudge!"

.

He actually turned away from me! I could feel the coolness in his nights.

.

I tried raising my voice and uttering threats.

.

"Now lookie here, young month!" I yelled. "I'm not through with you yet! You get your butt back in this year and stay put until I tell you to!"

.

He left!

.

And here it is --- September. And I'm not at all ready. What's a girl to do?

*
*

"So ..... September. How 'ya doin? Listen, before you get all orange and brown and red, there are a few things you and I should do together! I'll make it worth your while!"

.

(I'm not sure how well September listens. I'll let you know!"

.

.

By the way ... Rabbit, Rabbit!

We seldom are ready for summer to end, after all, we put so many plans and dreams into those few months and they go by so quickly. September though, can be a really cool month, that is, if you don't look ahead and see November fast approaching.

I'm with you and hated to see August go. We had some lovely days and hopefully yes, we'll see more of hem yet early on September. October sometimes surprises us with quite a few great ones too. Hope your Thursday is a wonderful one!

Well I am happy to say I adore September and October. I love the wonderful aromas coming from my oven. In Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in early October.
So although August had its moments I for one will wave bye bye and move on to the months that make me feel all cozy and warm inside.
BTW, your banner picture is the best! Love it.
And your post was very funny. Sorry you have to let August go....If you love something, set it free; if it comes back it's yours, if it doesn't, it never was.

At last, a kindred spirit who like August the way I do!
It is always sad to me when it goes away, so today I have chosen to simply ignore the fact...Great post, Friend.

I haven't even changed all the calendars yet! I don't want to. The last 2 weeks have been gorgeous and now it's S--t--b-r. But, it's still summer! for 20 more days right?

Interesting way to express feelings about time by talking to the month. Enjoyed the post.

That cartoon is funny.
I have to agree with you.
I am so not ready for September.
We were 59 degrees today. 20 degree drop from yesterday! EEK!

I'm with you, not even close to ready to let August go. How can it possibly be September already?
