Although that means that all around is turning verdant (I love that word!), I need a little more variety of color in my life today.
.
So, I introduce to you the city of St John's in Newfoundland. Newfoundland is full of colorful houses because of the long drab winters, and in St John's, the fog! The rows of different colored houses have come to be known as "jelly beans"!
(Now for a shameless plug for my home province.) If you've never visited Newfoundland, I would encourage you to go. The scenery is absolutely wild and spectacular; the people are some of the warmest and friendliest in the entire world - no word of a lie here!; and the culture completely unique.
.
Check it out for yourself here:
Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada – Official Tourism Website
And if you need a guide or a translator (the language is a combination of fast English/Irish/Scotish/French mixture where H's are dropped or added on as seen fit by the particular speaker), I'd be happy to oblige!

"Yis, bys! You'd 'ave some right-good time on da Rock!"

I've been to Newfoundland! Several years back we were headed for a wedding in Maine and I dragged my DH and youngest son to PEI -- driving up through Newfoundland (endlessly beautiful and green in July), stopping at St. John and heading across the Confederation Bridge!
I'll count on you to share your lovely homeland. I don't travel far but do enjoy what I call armchair traveling. It's been raining here most of the month of April. Everything is very green for sure...now we just need some sunshine to dry out a bit. Have a great Thursday!
I'd LOVE to come to Newfoundland some day! Everyone I know who has visited there just loves it. I'd like to see L'Anse aux Meadows too but I'm a little leery of driving all the way up there because of all the moose I hear you have on the highways.
That video was fantastic! I've never been to Newfoundland...but, then, I don't travel much--I'm not good in a car; to claustrophobic to fly; scared of trains....oh my.
We have a string of colorful historic houses downtown Charleston--it's called Rainbow Row.
I adore the mailboxes, BTW.
Neat houses. Don't know if I would want the bright green one though. They remind me of the San Francisco houses.
Oh elfqueen! I believe you mean New Brunswick which has a Saint John and is next to Maine. To get to Newfoundland, you have to take a 6-8 hr ferry from North Sydney NS across the gulf to Port aux Basques. But that's good news! Now you have Newfoundland to look forward to.
And Debra - Yes, we do have lots of moose and you must be extremely careful when driving, especially at night. But thankfully, they like to hang out on the barrens, so you usually can see them ahead of time.
You're right! I was thinking of the WRONG St. John!!!! SORRY!!!!
I was clearly not paying attention (My FIL, who is originally from Cape Breton - though he moved to the US when he was a child would laugh at me for my terrible non-Canadian-ness.) LOL
I would adore to see Labrador and Newfoundland! Maybe someday I will!
Jelly Beans...how very charmin' and beautifully colored your city is. I loved the video.
I for one would love to visit and would look ya up in a heartbeat. I think we'd cause quite a stir! Heeehehe!!!
God bless ya and have a great day!!!
Oh no Nezzy. St John's is NOT my city. They are on the east coast; Corner Brook (mine) is on the west coast. We are long-time rivals with awful snob-nosed "Sin-Jawns" almost always getting the upper hand! Drat them!
I'd love LOVE to come to da Rock.
It would be magical I think.
I didn't get to watch your video as our "high speed" internet isn't really that high speed...as it takes a LONG time to download videos, so I always have to by pass them
dang
but....I love color...and jelly beans
