GOODNIGHT LITTLE GARDEN!!

Sunday was a lovely crisp day -- not a lot of sun but not too cold either. So, I spent the afternoon putting the lawn furniture and ornaments in the shed and taking up some of my solar lights. (Do you bring in your solar lights or leave them out year round?) Then I walked around and tucked in my little garden.
***
"Goodnight dear friend! What lovely times we've had together! How much I appreciate you. Sleep well; grow strong!"

***

Look at how bare my little garden looks! Not really sad, but certainly ready for it's 5 month rest. I had lovely thoughts of the past spring and summer spent planning and purchasing and planting and watering and weeding and enjoying! (I must admit that some of those thoughts made me tired!)

***
I too am ready for my 5 month gardening rest. It's time to turn my thoughts to other things and let my body get involved in less physically challenging activities.
***
But look at these little fighters, still producing in spite of the cold temperatures this week:

***
I'm thinking about pine boughs in the planter boxes and putting out Christmas lights before the frigid weather comes, and these little guys are still hanging on to the wee bit of warmth that the October sun brings. How amazingly resiliant they are!

***
And you know what really excites me? The (as yet) slow and quiet anticipation of what will come next spring! It's going to be soooo beautiful!
***** orth next spring!
***
Oh that we could all grasp this same concept -- that the little seeds that are dormant in our own lives are just waiting for the right season so they can spring forth with new, vigorous life.
***
Blessings on you all, my friends!

Our solar lights stay out all year round. I did have to replace the batteries in a couple of them this year. Our flowers are about the same as yours right now. I like what you said about the seeds -- it is so very true. It is time to turn our thoughts indoord now and that's not a bad thing at all.
Have a great Monday!

Well, Indian Summer is surely around the corner in my neck of the woods...then I step outside and put my garden to rest too. Right now it is too shivery with the first frost and all.

Just wanted you to know that I'm enjoying your blog!☺

It seems like you just started posting pics of your beautiful garden and now its going dormant!
Our growing season is a little longer here but the flowers are starting to look a little sad.
We do keep our few solar lights out all year. I enjoy your blog.

The garden may be going into rest mode but once you start decorating for the holidays, things will liven up, Sandy! I love stuffing huge planters with pine branches, berries, bows and lights to get you in the mood!

Enjoyed your one word association game! LOL on #12....

This post made me so sad! I awoke to frost this morning, too, and the sight of all of my beautiful little flowers looking so pitiful just broke my heart. All of that hard work to plan, purchase, plant and care for them and now they're almost gone. *sniff*

My solar lights died a couple of months ago, they were 7-years old. Your garden is sweet and looks ready for a nice rest! I found your blog via Suburban Princess!

I enjoyed your ode saying farewell to your summer garden and hello to the autumn.
Can you plant anything at this time of year? Here we can still plant bulbs for spring flowers, for example.
Have a nice garden rest.

Seasons are nice--------and sometimes gardens and THINGS need to be put to "bed". I do believe there are definetly Seasons of our lives that sprout and grow When the Time Is Right.

Hi Sandy, your comment made me laugh. I have to say, much to my hubby's dismay, my bedroom is always neat. 1. you can see it when you walk in the great room. 2. I am neat as a pin where anything shows. 3. Never look in my drawers or closets. I am a mess behind closed spaces. That is where I act out my inner wish to be messy. Ha!!! My hubby's drawers and closet is perfect. That's because I can't stand to hear him say he can't find something. Now you know all about me. LOL.

I love your text today about your garden getting ready for winter. Your few little hanger on's are cute. I also like your analogy of renewal. Nice post and photos.

I love the fall so this time of year gives me energy. Our solar lights have been through two winters and they all need batteries. Maybe we should bring them in too. I haven't thought about it.

Have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Jeanne

I have been delaying pulling up my pansies because they still look so pretty!

We've been thinking about getting some of those solar lights...one of out neighbors has them and they look really good...usually we leave the porch lights on...it would be nice to save some electricity!

As much as I love spring, there is something soothing about preparing for fall and winter. Time to sit back, relax, and create some dreams for next year's gardens.

I cleaned up my garden, too, this past week. I wasn't as brave as you. I brought some potted plants in to live out their last blooms in my kitchen. The sad music playing along side your photos just about did me in though. Glad I found you.
