- an assortment of her favorite LP's (including your Simon & Garfunkle, Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin)
- the warm, wooly mittens you gave her a few years ago (because winter is acomin!)
- Her two favorite "little old lady hats", as she calls them. (And yes, she has worn them a number of times. She and her friends - both male and female - would have dinner parties where people were to dress up; the girls loved sporting long cotton gloves with their full-skirted dresses or beatnik-style leotards, and the guys wore various hideous sports coats from the '50s & 60's with their jeans. Very cute!)

She also requested her buckwheat pillow and some LaHave Bakery bread.

But Mom also comes bearing unasked-for gifts; necessary Nova Scotia items such as:
- a bottle of Lunenburg County Winery peach wine (for dinner with the possible in-laws!!)
- a bottle of Grand Pre Winery Castel (for sitting around with the youngsters)
- a bottle of blueberry juice (must build-up their imune systems which are sometimes frayed because of wild 20 yr old life-styles)
- a bottle of maple syrup (too expensive for a poor starving artistic couple to purchase)
- Halloween candies (because every home should have some at this time of year)
- Mom's home-made bread and butter pickles (because every home should have some at this time of year)
- Mom's home-made crabapple jelly (because every home should have some at this time of year)
Is there an echo in here??

And what did Mama pack for herself?

Well, along with her comfortable walking shoes; a scarf, gloves & hat; and those nice new-to-me stretch jeans (all with little Polish coffee shops and Italian pastry shops in mind), she packed this necessity:

Enjoy your visit it looks as though you are well prepared for just about anything.
Have a great time! But I wouldn't give up a Simon and Garfunkle LP for anything. . .
Keeping your Leonard Cohen stashed away ..are you
How much fun!!!
I hope ya haven't forgotten to pack an ample stash of good chocolate for your trip. I'd hate you to go into the chocolate shakes while you are gone.
Have a serious good time with your girl. I'm not even goin' to tell you to stay out of trouble. Just cause.....
Enjoy and God bless!!!!
I love your post today. Moms can do anything and everything. We have a lot to live up to don't we. I too love the stretch jeans and the Tums!!! Thank you for the big smile on my face today.

I hope you have a great time. And I hope you do not need the tums - Enjoy!
Gee Sandy, I don't have any of your homemade goodies in my house, LOL...and you DID say EVERY house should have them, LOL. :) I would love to go to one of those dress up dinners at your daughters place, how fun!!
Hey girl - guess what? You won my giveaway!!!! :) I need mailing info for you. :)
Sandy, what a great Mom you are providing that thorough 'list of needs' and then some! Hope you have a great visit...well, I KNOW you will ;)
Oooohhh, crabapple jelly - what a lucky girl!! My grandmother and mom made some every year from the fruit of my grandmother's tree, but after she died the tree was sold, along with the house. Years later, a piano student of mine discovered I was pining for it and brought me some every Christmas. And now I don't teach anymore, and no jelly....
Hi Doris the Great!
I'm not sure how I stumbled upon your blog, but I'm glad I found it. I share your passion for chocolate, daughters, and thrift store bargains. Long ago, I turned a friend onto couponing and second hand shopping, and she later told me what fun she was having with it. "Better than sex!" she said, to which I replied, "Well, DUH! I mean, cleaning the litter box is better than sex!"
Thanks for such an amusing blog, and I'll be back often!
Hope you have a wonderful visit with your daughter! Sounds like you definitely will!
