My Growing Taste Buds!

Ya know, I was raised a sweets girl!
***
No, no; not a "sweet" girl --although yes, I was probably a very sweet little girl [do not ask for references from my mother!!]. But you know how some kids were salty -- always going for the potato chips; or the sours -- loving those lip-puckering/ eye-ball crossing jaw breakers? Well, I always went for the sugar -- therefore, a sweets girl! And I still am a sweets girl! (Much to the chagrin of my once buns-o-steel and non-waving upper arms!)
******
My Ex and his family introduced me to some of the joys of sour and salty: sauerkraut with sausage or pork; swiss chard with butter and vinegar; fresh tomatoes with salt and pepper. But one thing that he loved that I could not abide was dill pickles! I only allowed them in the house, living in MY fridge next to the civilized food because of my love and duty as his wife! (Yet another of my sacrifice's that he never really grasped!! MEN!!)

***

I mean, pickles!! There so .... well ..... common!!
***

And that smell!!! A lady's home should never smell of pickles!!
***
And they're so .... phallic in shape! (I do beg your pardon!) But really; how many good Christian women have you ever seen with a dill!! Huh! Huh! How many??

******************

But somewhere over the past 10 years, my taste buds have changed. One day at MacDonald's (aka Dirty Macs) I didn't take the pickles off my burger; and it was okay! It was an interesting new taste sensation! And then another time while at a get-together, I decided to try the dill pickle as well as the carrot stick; and it was okay! It was an interesting new taste sensation!
***

And I got to rethinking my opinion of dills. I thought:
***

*"You know..... God might be alright with dill pickles. After all, they make kosher dills (and lots of them). And some Jewish people are kosher. And God loves Jewish people. Why, Jesus was Jewish! He may have even eaten dill pickles!!"
***

***
"And then there's that whole Christmas Pickle story. And I know God is really big on stories 'cause the Bible is full of them; and I think He kinda likes Christmas because it really is all about Him!"

So ... YES! I'm pretty sure that God's okay with dill pickles!"
***

And so now I can say with truth and sincerity,
I LIKE DILL PICKLES!!

********

PS -- Serve them up like this and I could probably say I LOVE dill pickles!!!

I love chocolate and I like pickles -- but never together! And I agree, there is never such a thing as too much chocolate!

I had the pleasure of having a deep fried dill pickle at our county fair this summer . It was delicious. It was coated in a batter and fried and after it cooled down a bit it was very good.

I too am a sweat girl. I swear our parents must of separated us at birth. The thought of a chocolate covered dill kinda' gags me. Yet as I think about it I really want to try one. I'd hate to miss out on something great, especially when it involves CHOCOLATE!!!

Have a super day!!!

Hi Sandy! Oh, this is so funny! Now I like pickles, but dipping them in chocolate doesn't sound so good to me! :) I'm a sweets gal too!
Glad you popped in to see me!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;0

Oh Nezzy --- You are not a sweat girl!!! (Or maybe you are! Do I need to avoid you at certain times?) Anyway, I think you're sweet!

And Ma - A deep fried pickle sounds absolutely gorgeous! I'm up for that one!

The rest of you -- be adventurous! If a pickle is dipped in batter & fried or dipped in chocolate, ONE must give it a try, mustn't ONE?

I love sweet pickles (sliced, not phallic), but I've never been okay with the flavour of dill. maybe someday I'll grow to love them too. Great blog!

LOL I don't think I could get the muster to eat one of those Chocolate covered dills. But what the heck to each his own. ;) I have days I crave sweet and other days crave Sour... but I think that is like most people.
Thank you for the very funny read.

This is a fun post. I am a "salty", while you grew up "sweets."
I adore dill pickles and am glad you pointed out the dill pickle Christmas tree ornament which of course we have at our house.
I am glad you are expanding your horizons to include a bit of dills.
Egg salad is very good with some diced dill pickles in it.
