Rabbit, Rabbit from The Rock!

Rabbit, rabbit from my beautiful home province of Newfoundland which is now my home again!

You know what they say:  Home is where the heart is. And my heart is with my children.

But as they flew the nest, and my own friends were getting more involved with their grandchildren, I found myself becoming more and more lonely over the past few years. I couldn't be an international Mom forever; that's hard work. And the siren call to go back home was getting harder and harder to ignore. My heart ached to be in Newfoundland.

So without going into long details, I got myself a dream job, donated, sold and/or packed up 41 years of "stuff", found myself a great apartment in the area where I grew up, and hit the long road (and ferry trip) to Corner Brook NL.  My parents, sibblings, eldest and youngest daughters, 1st grandson, and my best friend are all here. And although my house in Nova Scotia is not yet sold, I am not looking back.

I've been here a month now, and I have no regrets at the decision to move back home. Can anything compare to being able to drop in for tea with loved ones? Or take a walk on the beach with a darling little boy who calls you Nanny B and whose eyes are full of wonder at a sea shell? And the constant amazement and blessing I experience at being in this familiar yet different place. So much to explore! It's wonderful!

This rabbit, rabbit is not just luck for the month but luck for the continuation of my new life adventure.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

Starting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe said...

Good for you, Doris. As time goes by, we realize how important home and time with family are. I can imagine how difficult that packing up of 40 years was but now you are with your loved one and new adventures will begin. There is no place like home.

What a beautiful story! You are so right, there is nothing to compare with being surrounded by loved ones, spending your life in that warm, fuzzy cocoon. Four of my own grandchildren live within nine miles of my home, I'm twenty miles from my birthplace, and the little cherry on top is that I was able to retire four months ago. Dig in, or should I say snuggle in, my old friend, and enjoy the things life is really about.

Closer to family is definitly the BEST! Last year I sold my house and moved in above my Dad's. We had so much fun! After he passed, my daughter moved in, so it's all in the family again!

Enjoy your family as much as you can!

That is so great! Good for you and thanks for writing about it. I just lost my husband June 20...way too soon. My two sons, daughter in law and 2 year old grandson have been here with me since then. We are all in transition for the future but I am so blessed to have them with me now.

I wish you the very best of the rest of your life in beautiful Newfoundland. I lived there as a girl when my father was stationed at Harmon AFB and it has the fondest of memories.

I am so happy for you, I was in Corner Brook in 1999 My hubby and I got lost on top of a mountain. we drove down many desolate roads and I said I am starving, you got us lost. We turned the corner and there in NOWHERE was a hot dog stand. We started laughing so hard.
I asked the man what was he doing here he said it's so beautiful. We stayed in the hotel and ate at a restaurant next to it. I bought some GIANT fish hooks to hang keys on. OH! the ferry ride had scrapping noise going over at night. The person next to me said it's ice Bergs. I didn't sleep a wink. Beautiful country. I am happy you are with the children. Good luck and God Bless

You did the right thing. Without the family, you had nothing really to keep you back in Nova Scotia.
With all your love for thrift shopping, I guess you had a hard time with the sorting and packing of stuff. LOL.

Oh wow! Congratulations on your recent move back home Sandy. I think that is awesome and especially since your family is already there and you have a great new job too! All the best to you. I read your recent post about your sister's trailer and the bonfire. Sounds like a lot of fun. Enjoy being near your family and especially your grandson.
