RIP Pete Seeger

As you all know by now, Pete Seeger passed away; a great singer/songwriter, a bastion of civil and labor rights, active even in his 90's, influential to so many other wonderful artists, a gentle man with a heart for the people.

The first time I'd ever heard of Pete Seeger was around 1963/64.  Remember my folks old davenport full of records that I've mentioned before?  Well, besides Elvis, Skeeter Davis and Frank Ifield, there was The Seekers with "If I had a Hammer" and Peter, Paul and Mary giving cudos to Pete for writing "Where have all the Flowers Gone".  And then in later life, the Byrds with "Turn, Turn, Turn".  And because music was and still is so important to me, I'm sure that my early life was impacted by the music of Pete Seeger.   I can actually still recall how I felt when I first heard "Little Boxes" and how it made me think and think and think.  His song list is huge!

I'd like to say goodbye and thank you to Pete for the years of musical enjoyment and for opening my young mind.  Arlo Guthrie has a beautiful post honoring Pete on his Facebook page.
https://www.facebook.com/arloguthrie?hc_location=timeline  He's sums it up by saying:

He may have passed away, but he's not gone.
RIP Pete Seeger

I'm dating again!

Thanks to Kerry at PassiveAggressiveNotes.com, I've found out that my perspective on dating and relationships has been all wrong!

True ... My phone is silent most weekends.  And there has been quite a noticeable lack of male companionship and candlelit dinners in my life.  But when it comes exercising my still intact "MoJo" (Oh! Behave!), there's apparently been an overabundance of opportunities that I've been totally unaware of until now!

Just check this out and you'll see why.

(Note that this video does contain strong sexual inunendo.)

All these missed chances -- right here -- under my own nose!  And I've been blind to them to date!

But not any more!

  • I didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday (although there's something resembling turnip stuck to the kitchen floor)!
  • Moss will no longer grow under this rolling stone's feet (nor on her bathtub grout)!
  • I know when to "Carpe Diem" (or carpet shampoo-em)!
  • I've got a libeto (as well as a Swiffer), and I know how to use it!

So this Saturday, Sandy's got a date with a tall, dark bald-headed guy:

My dream man!  He's good-looking AND he cleans!

It's okay if you're a little dirty!"

What I'm missing....

It's been almost 4 weeks since I last "stood on my own 2 feet"; and the patience quota is wearing thin. Optimistic ole Sandy has searched and searched trying to find something positive about having a broken foot ..... but I ain't found nuttin! Oh, I've found that it can be funny! Downright hilarious sometimes -- but not positive.

I have periodic bouts of self-pity (which feel quite wonderful, by the way). These are followed very quickly by an "Oh for goodness sake! I don't have time for this!" attitude (which feels even better). Then I move on to something else.

But oh the patience level! Way down!

I'm missing more than patience. Here are the things that I miss the most:

  1. I miss being able to go downstairs whenever I feel like it. Going down is not so bad; it's the coming back up that does me in!

  2. I miss walking in the lovely crisp air and wanting to be out then when the snow falls.

  3. I miss putting up the Xmas lights outside.

  4. I miss wearing skirts and pretty shoes.

  5. I miss grocery shopping.

  6. I miss cooking dinner.

  7. I miss the favorite Xmas teas and craft shows that were on last weekend.

  8. I miss going out for lunch at work; these office walls are closing in around me!

  9. I miss exercise class and feeling good.

  10. I miss being in control of my life!

.
.
.
But you and I both know that I'm just chasing the wind! Because in the great scheme of things, me and my petty complaints are miniscule. I am but a pimple on the butt of a gnat!.
Does that get me down? No way! Because look who holds us all in his hand.....
.
It's the Big Guy -- my Heavenly Dad! And He tells me that loves me and that everything is fine. HE's in control.
.
.

(Does that stop me from complaining? No! But it sure helps me.)

XMAS THRIFTY FINDS

And so I was browsing "The Daisy" thrift store the other day looking for a black skirt; when all of a sudden I hear:
***
"Hey hey hey! Ho ho ho!
***
You there!
***
Yes you! The good little girl from Newfoundland! (And aren't you a cutie too!)
***
You look like a gal who might need a couple of good old fellas around the house. Two fat jolly boy-toys with roguish grins and twinkly eyes (and high black boots and a belt!). A couple of guys who will lavish you with gifts this Christmas. (Did we mention yet that it would be at your expense?).
***
And don't worry -- we promise to only smoke our pipes outside (and that what we smoke will be legal). And really -- our red cheeks and nose are not from excessive drinking -- you have our word on that!
***
You see, we need a good home where we'll be lovingly washed and put in a place of honor and fondly admired during the upcoming season before being carefully wrapped up and gently packed away for 11 months. And you look like the kind of girl who could really care for a guy!
***
What do you say? Our arms are open just waiting for you to take us home!"
***

******

Well, how could I say no! I mean, at my age, a girl's got to take a man (or two) where she can find them. And at this price (50 cents), these good-time Charlies were a real bargain!

***

PS -- I just have to ignore the holes in the back of their heads and the plugs up their butts! But then, we all make concessions for the men we love, right?
